Thomas C. Aitchison (1915-2011)
Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, Thomas moved with his parents to Bermuda in 1923. He served in the British Army during WWII in the Black Watch 1939-1945. He served in Bermuda, Britain, North Africa and Europe. He met his first wife, Joan, and mother of his two sons during WWII in England. After the war he returned to Bermuda where he worked in journalism and was a business owner. In 1956 he returned to the USA with his family living in Colorado, Arizona and California. During that time he returned to school and became a Certified Public Accountant.
After the death of his first wife in 1974, he was remarried to Lois Kempe and returned to Bermuda. In 2005 he once again returned to the USA, first California and then back to Arizona, Payson and then Snowflake.
He enjoyed a very interesting and varied life. Being a journalist and writer he met an incredible number of famous people including Albert Einstein, Rudy Kipling, Babe Ruth and many more. He was an accomplished Scottish-trained bag piper. He played for Prince Phillip and Princess Elizabeth just prior to her becoming Queen. He was an avid storyteller, regaling family and friends with a lifetime of anecdotes. He was also a keen sports fan, especially baseball and cricket. He was a published writer and continued writing until the week of his death.
He will greatly be missed by his son, Chris; daughter-in-law Rosemary of Snowflake; son Bruce; five grandchildren: Melody, Jason, Janella, Simon, and Jasha, all of San Diego, California and literally hundreds of friends and acquaintances around the world.
