The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ July 10, 1953 Year-Old Child Died In Crash West of Town Last Friday. Tenth Fatality of Year on Local Highways One-year-old Sharon Ann Marshall of Phoenix became highway fatality No. 10 in the Wickenburg patrol district last Friday evening, July 3, when the car in which she was riding with her grandparents, Mr & Mrs Clifford McGinnis, also of Phoenix, collided with one driven by Gustav Haak 14 miles west of Wickenburg. The child was killed instantly. Her grandparents were bought to Community Hospital here for treatment of their serious injuries. Two other grandchildren, Phillip Marshall, age 2, and Rosalie Ann Warren, 5, were slightly injured, Haak, 47, a resident of chandler, and his wife, Mary, were also brought to the hospital for treatment. Inquest Held A coroner’s jury summoned by Justice of the Peace R. L. Westall, viewed the scene of the accident Saturday and was expected to go into session here Thursday afternoon to determine the cause of the little girl’s death. Serving on the jury were Russell Stone, Allen Hershkowitz Tony Vukovich, Bill Reedy, E. J. Montgomery and Pete Garcia. Haak Cited Patrolman George Pemberton, who investigated the accident, said he was citing Haak for drunk and reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and negligent homicide. The coroner’s inquest was delayed until Thursday in the belief that Haak might be discharged from the hospital by then and could be called before the jury to testify.
