Robert C. Skaggs, 89, born Nov. 11, 1921, in Miami, Okla., passed away May 9, 2011, in Prescott, Ariz.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. May 13, 2011, at the Memory Chapel, Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, Ariz. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. May 14, 2011, at First Baptist Church, corner of Marina and Goodwin in Prescott.

Robert Clinton Skaggs Sr., age 89, went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2011, in Prescott, Ariz., at the VA Hospital. He was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Miami, Okla., to Robert Grant Skaggs and Laura Emily (Mock) Skaggs. Robert was one of 12 children.
He served during WWII in the U.S. Army in the 1st infantry Division. "The Big Red One" took him through North Africa, and he also served in the Sicilian invasion and, as a corporal, he was one of the first to land on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. In November 2003, Robert was presented a special award by the French government in appreciation for his part in the liberation of France.
Robert married Wilma Lea Hayden after his service to his country. They lived many years in Phoenix where they raised their family. Robert worked for APS in Phoenix, retiring in 1982. Wilma passed away and he later met and married Carol Little, and they have since resided in Prescott. Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Prescott. He and Carol were both active in ministering to the seniors of the church and were "helping hands" wherever needed.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters Roberta (Rey) Carrillo and Rhonda Black; his daughter-in-law Debbie Skaggs; stepsons Steve, Lanny, Rob, Brian and Joel Little; brother Kenneth (Faye) Skaggs; sister Dorothy Osborn; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Lea, his son Robert Jr., and six sisters and three brothers.
The family wishes to thank all the staff and volunteers for the wonderful care during Robert's stay at the VA Hospital these past two years.
Services and interment will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, Ariz. A memorial service will take place at First Baptist Church of Prescott 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of Prescott or to the Prescott VA Hospital, Community Living Center or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
