Stella Nelson, 85, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in Winslow.

Mrs. Nelson was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Castle Butte. She was a rug weaver, homemaker and gardener (corn fields, planted melons). She herded sheep and sewed blankets and quilts.

She is survived by her spouse, Enrique Nelson; sons Gus Nelson, Leonard Nelson, Finley Nelson, Frankie Nelson and Miller Nelson; daughters Yolandie Bloomingdale and Edith Puente; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Yazzie and Vernon Yazzie; sister Cessie Barton; and son Leroy Davis.
