Samuel C. Nash Jr., 84, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away peacefully on April 19, 2011. He was the beloved husband for more than 64 years of Florence Patricia (Johnson) Nash.
Sam was born on June 28, 1926, in Washington, D.C., to Samuel and Ethel Nash. He was raised in Washington, D.C., and started working for the city's water department in 1945. He rose through the ranks to become the general foreman, overseeing the city's water department, retiring in 1980. He met his future wife, Pat, in 1942 while swimming at the East Potomac Park swimming pool, where he dunked Pat under the water. They were married in 1946. Sam and Pat moved to Rockville, Md., where they raised their three sons. Sam was active in youth sports, coaching youth baseball teams and organizing league events. Same and Pat moved to Prescott in 1987 and Sam quickly became involved with activities at St. Paul's Anglican Church, serving in various capacities over the years. Sam and Pat loved traveling throughout this great country in their camper.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sam is survived by his devoted sons, David Nash (Sylvia), Tom Nash (Gail) and Paul Nash; four adored grandchildren, Terry, Chris, Greg and Scott; seven cherished great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ellie, Jonathan, Jessie, Evrett, Caden and Jetta; sisters-in-law Priscilla Burke and Diana Freeman; and a niece and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 20 2011, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 600 W. Hillside Avenue in Prescott. A graveside service will follow later at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, Md.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church.
