Joseph Schapiro Jr. was born in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 24, 1940, to Joseph and Esther Schapiro, and was called home by his Lord and Savior May 8, 2011.
He proudly served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. His deep patriotism and love for his country was profoundly reflected throughout his life.
He married his wife, Janice, Feb. 5, 1972. They enjoyed 39? years together; they had two daughters, Linda and Elaine, and four grandchildren, Kayla, Joseph, Marina and Jacob.
The greatest highlight of his life was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1976. From that commitment came a deep passion for God’s Word and a desire to put it into daily practice as a testimony of God’s love. He served as a gifted Bible study teacher and compassionate deacon.
He retired in 2005. In June of 2008, he and Jan moved to Star Valley Ranch, Wyo., where he fell in love with the mountains, wildlife and uncomplicated lifestyle.
Throughout Joe’s life, his happiest times were when he was hunting, target and skeet shooting, and spending time with his God and family. His humor and good nature endeared him to all. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services were at Emmanuel Bible Church in Thayne, Wyo. His ashes will be interred during a graveside service at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
Because of Joe’s love for God’s Word and the importance he placed on Scripture memorization in lieu of flowers or gifts, please make any donations to Emmanuel Bible Church designated to the Bible Bee scholarship fund at P.O. Box 962, Thayne, WY, 83127.
