PERRY, Roy Leslie, Jr.


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, May 17, 2011 Roy Leslie Perry Jr. passed away May 14, 2011, at the Prescott, Ariz., VA hospital, close to where his mother, Mary, was born in 1903. Mary's father, Roy A., worked on the railroad in the late 1800s and Roy's father, Roy Sr., was born in Phoenix in 1901. Roy Jr. was born in Phoenix on Nov. 9, 1923, attended North Phoenix High School and retained homes and relationships throughout his lifetime in Arizona, although he and his wife Jimmie also spent many years in California and Washington state throughout their 62-year marriage. They raised three boys, Roy III, Timothy and Gilbert. Roy Jr. was preceded in death by Jimmie, his wife; Gilbert, his youngest son; and Philip, his youngest brother. He is survived by two sons, Roy III and wife Linda, and Tim and wife Inga; Pam, his daughter-in-law; and Jim, his brother and wife Jean. In addition, Roy Jr. has eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; numerous friends and schoolmates throughout high school, and many who knew him at his last place of residence in Prescott Valley for the past 15 years. Roy Jr. served his country during WWII as a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying in a B24 Liberator with the 63rd Squadron, 43rd Bombardment Group stationed in the Philippines. Roy Jr. was a 55-year member of the Masonic Temple in Arizona as well as a member of Shrine Clubs in Arizona, California and Washington State. At Roy's request, his ashes will be scattered over the Mingus Mountain Range, joining his late wife Jimmie, who departed in 2004. At the request of family, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Services will take place for family and friends on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the VA Hospital Chapel in Prescott. Information provided by survivors.
