Inez Eugenia Colwell, 99, died May 7, 2011. She was a resident of Ponderosa Care and Rehab of Flagstaff. She was born June 12, 1911, in Cornwall, England, the youngest child of Ernest and Sarah Williams.
She was married to the Reverend Ernest Colwell, who died in 1961, and spent most of her life as a pastor's wife in Maryland.
Mrs. Colwell was a naturalized citizen and was very proud of that accomplishment. She was active politically and a staunch patriot who loved her adopted country. She opened her home as a care facility for the elderly after her husband's death and took care of elderly ladies who were often younger than she was. In 1997, she moved to Flagstaff to live with her son and then to Ponderosa Pines in 2004. Even while in the care of the home in Flagstaff she always said "thank you" to the nurses and "I love you" when she recognized a face.
Mrs. Colwell is survived by two sons, Ernest (Henrietta) Colwell of Flagstaff, and David (Wanda) Colwell of Anmor, W.V.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest; and her sisters, Ethel and Margaret.
A memorial service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Christ's Church of Flagstaff. Burial will be at the family gravesite in Maryland.
Her family expresses gratitude to the staff at Ponderosa Care and Rehab for their compassion and support.
In memory of Inez, tell a friend that you love them.
