Ruby Leona Ruehle, age 80, a 28-year resident of of Bullhead City, passed away with family by her side on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and friend to many.
Ruby, a housewife, was born on June 6, 1930, to Timothy and Alberta Erwin of Visalia, Calif. She had five brothers and three sisters. She attended and graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in June of 1948. Soon after, she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Ruehle. They were happily married for 62 years. They had three children, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. They raised their family in southern California, and retired to Bullhead City in 1982. There she enjoyed spending time on Lake Mohave and the Colorado River with her husband and family, playing bingo, and attending her grandchildren's activities. She also became very active in her church, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bullhead City.
Ruby kept in close contact with her large extended family and circle of friends throughout her life. She kept everybody informed of everyone's lives. This kept the family close, despite the distances that separated them. Ruby also loved to cook. Nobody left the table hungry when they visited her home. Her "Erwin Beans" and famed "Enchilada Casserole" were always a big hit at family get-togethers. Ruby's chili was often requested at church functions.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Alberta Erwin, and three brothers, Leonard Erwin, Bart Erwin and Jay Erwin.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jerry Ruehle of Bullhead City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Dan Clague of Etowah, N.C., and Virginia Ruehle and Ted Losee of Valencia, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Ruehle and Nicolette Thude of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Joe Erwin of Ballwin, Miss., and Lee Erwin of Bullhead City; two sisters, Alberta Ward of Mission Hills, Calif., and Blanche Orley of Washington State; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her in-laws from the Ruehle side of the family who she always held so dear; and a multitude of friends.
A memorial service for Ruby will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1664 Central Avenue, Bullhead City, Ariz. Dr. Earl J. Pierce, Pastor, will preside over the service. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
