Paul P. Brown, age 85, longtime resident of Harrison Township (Shiloh), died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Brookhaven Retirement Community.
Paul graduated from Wilbur Wright HS in 1943 and married his classmate Doris Lloyd in 1946 who survives him after 64 years of marriage. He received a B.S. Degree in Marine Engineering from Kings Point US Merchant Marine Academy and a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering from Ohio State University in 1951, after which he retired from the US Naval Reserve. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during WW II between 1943 and 1945.
Paul founded Brown and Head Architects in 1954. In 1981 it became known as Brown and Associates Architects. When Paul retired his son Stephen succeeded ownership of the firm which is now known as Brown and Bills Architects. During his career, Paul was the primary architect for over 700 area buildings and was past president of Dayton Chapter, American Institute of Architects. Paul served as President of the Presidents Club and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1979 for his achievements.
His enthusiasm for aviation began in 1965. He held pilot certificates for Sail planes, single engine airplanes, and hot air balloons, and owned various models of each. He remained an active member of QB. Paul served as the chairman of The Dayton Air Show Hot Air Balloon Rally for the Chamber of Commerce, was a founding member of The Aviation Trail Inc. and served many years on the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee of The National Aviation Hall of Fame.
Community involvement also included two terms as a Harrison Twp. Trustee for 8 years. Past President of the Miami Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, Past President Riverdale Optmist Club, Past Lt Governor of Optimist International, Montgomery County Fair Board, Dayton Horse Show Association, Director of the Desert Caballeros (out Wickernburg way), Chairman of the Miami Valley AAA Board of Directors, Dayton Art Institute Board, Past President of the Engineers Club of Dayton, member of Shiloh United Church of Christ and Miami Valley Gold Club.
Paul was involved in all aspects of Freemasonry receiving the Honorary 33rd Degree in 1980 and serving as Potentate of Antioch Shrine in 1976.
Paul is survived by his wife Doris, three sons and daughter-in-laws, Stephen and Eileen of Dayton, Stanley and Laurie of FL, Dr Gregory and Rebby of PA, and 8 grandchildren Tim, Michelle, Tony, Patrick, Adam, Andrew, Alex and Maggie. Scottish Rite Ring Service and Memorial Services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Shiloh Church 5300 Philadelphia Dr at N Main St by Rev Dick Van Tine. The family will receive friends Sunday following the memorial services at church during a reception.
