Michael Frasher, 56, passed away May 1, 2011, in Pahrump, Nev.
He was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Tucson, Ariz., to Nova and Louise Frasher, the third of seven children. He was a resident of Pahrump since 1989. Michael made his parents proud, when as a young boy, he served his church as an alter boy. In later years, he was the music director for what used to be Grapevine Fellowship.
He was extremely intelligent and was able to skip two grades while attending school.
Michael, known to his friends as "Mikel Steven" or "Flattop Mike," was a talented man and an accomplished musician. He could play any musical instrument and had the amazing ability to hear a song only once, and play it back perfectly.
He was also a songwriter and wrote music as well. He won several awards for his talent, including third place at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Kansas in 1987.
In 1987, he left his home in Colorado to play at the Hacienda in Las Vegas.
As a youngster, Michael was a Boy Scout, and when he moved to Pahrump, he became a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 748. He also helped to coach Little League.
Michael was very well known in Pahrump for his ability to fix anything having to do with electronics, and was the owner/operator of Gamebird Electronics.
He repaired musical instruments as well and used his knowledge to help the high school band.
He was never wealthy, but his children remember being blessed to have him for a father. He always found ways for them to spend time together, even if it was just sledding in the mountains or camping in the back yard. He taught them love and values.
He was especially close to his son, Chris, and was so excited for the arrival of Chris' firstborn child, Freya Frasher, who arrived May 6, 2011. Michael came from a very large and loving family who were all extremely close.
Michael leaves behind his father Nova Frasher of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; sons, Christopher Frasher of Nashville, Tenn. and Hunter Burchett of Danville, Ind.; daughter Halli Burchett of Telluride, Colo.; ex-wife Juanita Huisentruit, whom he married in 1987 (they remained friends over the years); siblings, Sandy Cole and Barbara "Babs" Melendy, both of Prescott Valley, Richard Frasher of Wichita, Kan., Mary Frasher of Quebec, Canada and Terri Kimball of Phoenix, Ariz.; three granddaughters, one grandson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Deborah Lumsden and mother Louise Frasher.
He will be laid to rest on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz.
