Margie Violet Lanford, nee Allen, 89, beloved wife of the late Samuel Ford Lanford, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2011. An Arizona native, Margie was born Jan. 8, 1922 at her grandmother's home in Willcox to Horace and Faye Clark Allen and spent her childhood in and around the Willcox area.
As an adult, Margie and Sam married, and after several years living out of state, they settled in Phoenix where, along with children Robert and Lynda, they became charter members of Trinity United Methodist Church, Glendale. At Trinity, Margie served as wedding hostess and president/secretary of United Methodist Women, as well as singing in the choir.
In 1978, Margie and Sam relocated to Prescott where she continued to be an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving again as wedding hostess, choir member, and member of United Methodist Women. She also became active in Prescott Lionesses club. Prescott proved to be beloved home, and Margie continued to reside there after being widowed after 50 years of marriage. She eventually relocated to Phoenix to spend her final years.
She is preceded in death by parents Horace and Faye Allen, husband Samuel Lanford, brothers Wayne and Rex Allen, and sister Dotty Jo Riley. She is survived by sisters, Flora Cobb, Billie Stevenson; brother Ben Allen; son Robert and daughter-in-law Kathy Lanford; daughter Lynda Lanford; grandchildren, Laurie Kelly, Julie Lanford, Eric Reda, Jaime Reda and Ivy Weber; and great-grandchildren, Austin Lanford, Hayley Lanford, Georgia Malcolm and Kasey Malcolm. Margie is also survived by a devoted network of friends and extended family.
Throughout her life, Margie presented a shining example of strength, compassion, service and cheerfulness to everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her. She will be deeply missed.
Family and friends will join in a celebration of Margie's life on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. The service will take place at Prescott United Methodist Church in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to People Who Care through Prescott United Methodist Church.
