HICKS, Loris L.

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Thursday, May 26, 2011 Loris L. Hicks, 76, died May 16, 2011, peacefully in her bed in Flagstaff, as was her wish, after a long battle with CLL. She was under the care of Northland Hospice. She was born July 26, 1934, in Chicago. She returned to Flagstaff 25 years ago, having remembered it as a place where she was most happy, out of the many places that she lived as a child. Her travels in life brought her from her birthplace in Chicago to the Sacramento Valley of California. She married and had two sons before the family moved to Oregon. She eventually left Oregon, accepting a one-year assignment in Ceylon on the hospital ship HOPE. After her return she settled in San Francisco before eventually moving back to Flagstaff 25 years ago where she worked as a neuro-diagnostic technologist at Flagstaff Medical Center. She found too many friends in the community to ever want to leave. She had many interests, including traveling the world, reading, spirituality, her treasured pets, and her longtime passion of painting. She is survived by her son, David, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and the many friends whose lives she touched. At her request, a brief informal gathering at her home will be open to her friends Saturday at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northland Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to Mahadavi2@aol.com.
