George Alton Cooper, 91 of Chandler, passed away on July 5, 2003 in Mesa, AZ.
He was born in Mesa on May 18, 1912 to the late John H. & Gertrude L. (Clevenger) Cooper and worked as a dairyman in the East Valley for most of his life. One of his greatest pleasures was camping with his family along a trout stream in Arizona's White Mountains.
Alton held many leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Family and friends will miss his dry, sarcastic wit. He married Stella Dozier on February 15, 1936. His youngest son, Timothy Alton, preceded him in death 3 years ago. Survivors include his wife Stella, of Chandler, daughters: LaFon Baker (Jim) of Chandler, Beverly Gamble (Larry) of Purvis, MS, Cheryl Turner of San Antonio, TX; son, Steve of Chandler; sisters: Luveda Fincher of Higley, Lois Allen (Andrew) of Tempe, Maxine Haws (Kato) of Gilbert; uncle, Ernest Clevenger (Dorothy) of Mesa; 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 10 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the Chandler Arizona Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1115 E. Ray Road in Chandler where visitation will begin 1 hour prior.
Interment will follow at The City of Mesa Cemetery. Arrangements by Bueler Mortuary.
