Gene R. Bennett, a resident of Bouse, Ariz., was born Oct. 11, 1933 in Fillmore, N.Y., and died May 12, 2011 at his home in Bouse. He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma (Royce), his devoted daughter Rondus, and several nieces, nephews and loving friends.
He was preceded by his parents, Leon and Fern (Dorey) Bennett; his sister, Lina Keough Kise; and his brother, Thomas Bennett.
Gene retired as proud owner of Bennett Brothers Farm in Short Track, NY in August 1991 and moved to Bouse. He was known as a great humanitarian, as he served on local and state school boards in New York and started the Bouse clinic. He would lend a hand to anyone in need.
He was a proud member of the FFA and was an Eagle Scout.
He was a supporter of education and a health care advocate. He was known and loved as Dad or Papa Gene to many. He taught others to respect themselves and to do the same to others. His favorite saying was “Look at all the good-looking ladies.”
A scholarship in his name for health care students is being set up. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 4 at the Bouse Booster’s Community Hall in Bouse. All are welcome to celebrate his life.
