Edwin Allen Darnell, 47, of Flagstaff, died June 2, 2011. He was born May 24, 1964, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Richard and Anita Darnell.
Growing up, he enjoyed spending summers on the farm in Iowa and football. As a youth, he enjoyed baseball, Boy Scouts, fishing with his dad, motorcycles and tinkering with his car. He graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, after which he attended Wright State University and Northern Arizona University.
Mr. Darnell loved cooking and the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He loved computers and loved Star Wars and Star Trek. Mr. Darnell was an active member of the community and served as past-president of Citizens Against Substance Abuse (CASA). While volunteering with CASA, he assisted in bringing in lots of support from many organizations as well as helping establish the Celebrate Youth Day. He was an active member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church for years. Mr. Darnell was a longtime employee in good standing of Westcore/Macerich, where he worked for more than 15 years.
Mr. Darnell is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Katarina; sons Tyler and Riley; mother Anita Darnell of Bluffton, Ohio; grandmother Evelyn Darnell of West Union, Iowa; sister Chris (Joe) Mattice of Jenera, Ohio; sister Margo (Mike) France of Lebanon, Ohio; uncles Gary (Nancy) McIntyre of Iowa and Dirk Darnell of Maryland; aunts Dorothy McIntyre of Edina, Minn., Kay Dempsy of West Union, Iowa, Lynn Darnell, of Iowa and Jill Darnell of Iowa; mother-in-law Joyce MacNab; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Darnell; grandfather Vern Darnell; grandparents Earl and Gertrude McIntyre; father-in-law Murray MacNab; and brother-in-law Scott MacNab.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, 3600 N. Fourth St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Eddie Darnell Benefit Account, Wells Fargo.
