Rites Pending For Roy Shehorn
Funeral services are pending for Roy T. Shehorn, age 69, but will probably be held in Phoenix with burial in Mesa.
Mr Shehorn, known throughout the nation for his perfection in carving birds of the desert, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in his home just west of Morristown.
Mr Shehorn retired as an auto mechanic and electrician in Webster City, Ia., and moved here in 1951 for his health. He had always liked birds and animals and started carving them as a hobby. Within five years his carvings became museum pieces and collectors' items and were sold in exclusive stores in 23 states. In recent years he was turning out 30 carvings a week and still could not begin to keep up with the demand.
The body was removed to the County Medical Examiner in Phoenix.
Surviving are the widow, who has been visiting her elder father in Illinois; two sons, Howard Shehorn of Mesa, Ariz., and Norval of Monrovia, Calif., and a sister, Mrs R. G. Kautz of Rinard, Ill., also two brothers, Russell of Woolstock, Ia., and Wessley of Fairfield, Ill. Four grandchildren also survive.
