Prescott Funeral For Former U. S. Senator Ashurst
Henry Fountain Ashurst, 87, one of Arizona's first tow U. S. senators and older brother of Edward B. Ashurst of Wickenburg, died in Georgetown University Hospital at Washington, D. C., Thursday of last week. The body was sent to Prescott where funeral services were held in the Sacred Heart Church Monday morning. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery there.
At the age of 21 Senator Ashurt became the youngest member of the Arizona Territorial House of Representatives and later became its youngest speaker. He later was elected to the Territorial Senate. One month after Arizona became a state, Ashurst was unanimously elected in 1912 by voters of the state and reelected in 1916, 1922, 1928, and 1934. In Washington he became famous for his silver-tongued oratory.
Survivors in addition to the Wickenburg brother are a sister, Mrs Maude West of Monterey, Calif., one step-son, who is a Washington attorney, and several nieces and nephews.
