CAMPBELL, Kathleen (Kitty) Frances

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Saturday, June 11, 2011 Kathleen "Kitty" Frances Campbell, 86, died May 7, 2011, with family members at her side. She was born in 1924 in Pawhuska, Okla. As a child, she lived six years in New Orleans and also in Pawhuska and Tulsa, Okla. She moved with her family to Napa, Calif., in 1942 and graduated from Napa High School in 1943. There she met her first husband, Charles L. Fox, who, while on leave from his WW II duty station and visiting his Aunt Myrtle, was smitten by his aunt's pretty neighbor girl. They were married in February 1943 and had a son, Charles Lewis Jr., the following year. After the war, they lived for six years in Broken Bow, Neb., his hometown, and had a two-year stop in northeastern Colorado before returning to Napa in 1953. Charles died in 1967, and she married Duncan Campbell in 1974. She and Duncan enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Lake Tahoe, fishing, collecting and drying plants, gardening, bird-watching and spending time with grandchildren. Duncan died in 1992. While in Napa, Mrs. Campbell worked at J.C. Penney's, Napa State Hospital and Family Drug. She moved to Flagstaff in 2004 to be closer to her son and his family. For the last seven years, she has been a very active and involved great-grandmother. She babysat, attended school programs, athletic events, went on family trips, and shared her wisdom and love with her great-grandkids. She was very talented at cross-stitching and was able to make many gifts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver and loved the show "Survivor." She had a kind heart, treated everyone with respect and had a giggle that was contagious. She wasn't particularly fond of the cold and windy weather in Flagstaff, but was very happy to be near her family. Please don't misunderstand us when we say we hope she's in a warmer place. We love you mom, grandma and GeeGee. She is survived by her son, Lew (Shirley); four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Roth; and two nieces and their families. There was a family memorial held in May. Condolences and/or memories may be sent to the family at www.norvelowens mortuary.com.
