CAMPBELL, James Dennis


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Wednesday, June 15, 2011 James Dennis Campbell, age 75, of North Platte, Neb., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 10 in Lincoln Nebraska at the Nebraska Heart Institute. He was born on July 22, 1935 in Wallace, Neb., to James Campbell and Lucinda Strawder. He grew up in Wallace, Sutherland and Stapleton where he graduated in 1952 from Stapleton High School. He joined the Navy All Nebraska Company in 1955 where he was discharged with honors in 1959. He married Caro Overton on July 3, 1960 at the Arnold Nebraska Baptist Church. He attended Universal Trade School in Omaha and then lived in Glenwood, Iowa, before moving to North Platte, Neb., where he worked various jobs. Ultimately, he worked for Consolidated Freightways as a dispatcher and assistant manager for 23 years until he retired in 1994. He and Caro spent several years as volunteers for RVICS (Roaming Volunteers in Christ’s Service) where they traveled across the country together and met many people. Dennis enjoyed golfing and playing cards and games with friends and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Caro; sister Delores Sykes of Grant, Neb.; and brother Garland (Lynne) Campbell of Springfield, Ore.; daughter Shelly (Marty) Cecil of Kremmling, Colo.; daughter Christel (Tedd) Burgason of Wickenburg, Ariz.; son Curt (Teather) Campbell of Lincoln, Neb.; granddaughters Holly and Brook Cecil, Emma and Abby Burgason, and Molly Campbell and new grandson Matthew James Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill, Max, and Lawrence, and sister Helen Tobiasson. Memorials may be made to Maranatha Bible Camp of Maxwell, Neb., and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday (June 15) at North Platte Berean Church with George Cheek and Pastor Bob Teters officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
