John L. Williams, 101, of Flagstaff, died June 12, 2011, at the Olivia White Hospice Home. He was born April 13, 1910, to Alex and Eliza Henry Williams in Columbia, Miss.
Mr. Williams proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Stokes, being honorably discharged November 1945. In 1946, he moved his family to Flagstaff, where he worked at Southwest Industries until his retirement. He could most often be seen sitting on his front porch on the corner of Lone Tree Road and Butler Avenue watching the day go by. Mr. Williams loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his children, Edwina Johnson of Flagstaff, LeRoy Williams of Las Vegas, Darleen Roberts of Phoenix, Christine Taylor of Phoenix, Deborah Coleman of Denver and Larry Williams of New Orleans; stepchildren Gloria Dell Moore and Eloise Broomfield Moody; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his church family, the Masons, and more friends than one can count.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Emily Williams and Ozzie Williams; son Johnny Lee Williams; a daughter; and stepson Daniel Broomfield.
A visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church on Elden and Butler. Interment will conclude services at the Citizens Cemetery.
