David Malcolm Williamson, 97, was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Highland Park, Mich. He died Christmas morning 2006, in Winter Springs, Fla.
David attended junior college and then graduated from Detroit Techincal Institute with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He played five years of college football, was captain of the team, and also won medals for diving on the swimming team.
He became a 'hot-cold' (thermodynamics) engineer, eventually going into sales and specializing in industrial insulation. He also served as an instructor for the Charles River Power Squadron, being a navigator and sail instructor. Dave also participated in Little Theater, starring in several small productions.
David was a 32nd degree Mason in the Wadsworth, Ohio, Chapter. He was also a Shriner.
Upon retiring in 1977, he and his wife Winifred moved to Sedona. Dave and Winnie became active in the Verde Valley Concert Association. He directed the Operations Committee 1987-1993, stage-managing all of the productions. Later he served on the Board of Directors, as well as being a member of the Scholarship Committee, Program Selection Committee, and helping with all the fundraisers. Dave and Winnie were loyal passengers on the Phoenix Opera bus, from its inception in 1977 until 2003, when a move to Mayer took them out of Sedona. Winifred Marie died in 2005.
He is survived by his son John (Mary) Williamson of Trumbull, Conn.; his daughter Janet Willis of Mayer; his daughter Diane Williamson of Anza, Calif.; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
