Phoebe R. Hill, 80, died June 20, 2011, in Flagstaff. She was born May 7, 1931, in Teesto, to Alvin Tabahe and Zonnie Jackson.
She was Todich'ii'nii (Bitter Water Clan) born for the Tabaaha (Water's Edge Clan). She attended Leupp Boarding School and graduated from the Albuquerque Indian School. She enjoyed a 35-year career in education with the Bureau of Indian Affairs serving as a librarian at Toyei, Leupp, Chuska and Greasewood boarding schools prior to her retirement. Mrs. Hill lived in St. Michaels for eight years.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her sister, Mary Ahasteen of St. Michaels; brother Randolph Tobahe of Teesto; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Hill; father Alvin Tobahe; mother Zonnie Jackson; brothers Mark Charley, Oliver Tobahe and Jack Tobahe; and sisters Milcent Kanuho and Nona Newby.
A funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. (MST) at the Winslow Maranatha Assembly of God Church, 617 N. Alfred Ave., in Winslow. Services will be conducted by Pastor James Bennett, Jr. Viewing will take place one hour prior to services at 9 a.m.
Burial will follow at the city cemetery in Winslow. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge, 315 W. Third St., Winslow.
