Buren Holyoak of Wilhoit, passed away at New Horizons Care Home on Oct. 10, 2007. He was born on July 24, 1939, to Ervin H. and Maxie Lee Holyoak in Fort Thomas, Ariz.
Buren graduated from Bisbee High School in 1957 and later served in the Navy aboard the USS Midway from 1961 until 1966.
He worked for Phelps Dodge Mine in Bisbee and upon his retirement was employed at Granite Mountain Middle School.
Buren is survived by his daughters, Kellie and Michelle; son-in-law Tai; brother Lyle; sister-in- law Boots; grandchildren, Tyler, Shon, Jason and Sarah. He is also survived by four stepsisters and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Maxie and his step-mother Ollie.
Buren's hobbies through out his life included playing the guitar, singing, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, throwing horseshoes, playing pool and cooking. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play football, as he was an avid sports fan.
Buren had many fond memories of his childhood spent in Oak Creek Canyon with his brother Lyle. His grandparents lived in Oak Creek and ran the fruit orchard there. Later, he and his brother formed a motorcycle club called "The Gamblers" and they, rode many miles with their friends on their Harleys. He also sang and played his guitar at Bruno's Bar, where many would gather to dance to his music.
A memorial service with military honors will be 11 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church, 6901 East Horizon Lane in Prescott Valley. A reception will follow.
In lieu flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to Hospice of the Pines.
