HESSE, Richard (Dick)


The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, June 20, 2006 Richard "Dick" Hesse, 53, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, in the Addison Gilbert Hospital, Gloucester, Mass., following a brief illness. He was the husband of Francine (Souza) Hesse. They had shared 25 years of marriage. Dick was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 12, 1952. He was the son of Gertrude (Francis) Hesse of Prescott Valley, Arizona and the late Herman Hesse. A resident of Gloucester since the age of eight, he was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1970. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having flown the Pacific rim as an assistant crew chief on tankers during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1976. Dick was employed as a machine technician at Varian for the past six years and had worked at NutraMax for several years. He also worked with his best friend, Ed Hopkins, at Ed’s Oil Burner Service for many years. A veteran member of Aces & Eights, he loved riding his motorcycle and going fishing. A devoted husband, father and friend, he will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Anastasia Hesse; a son, Geoffrey Hesse, both of Gloucester, Mass.; a sister, Jane Hesse of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Phillipina, wife of the late Claude Souza; a sister-in-law, Angela, wife of Robert Morrissey, all of Gloucester, Mass.; three brothers-in-law, Frank, husband of Victoria Souza of Gloucester, Mass., Joseph, husband of Maura Souza of Wolfeboro, N.H., Robert Larkin of Beverly, Mass., three aunts, Lorraine, wife of the late Charles Lycett of Magnolia, Mass.; Barbara Parshley and Mary Hesse, both of Kingston, N.H.; several nieces and nephews and among many cousins, a special cousin, Bill Hesse of Va. He was also predeceased by his sister, Frances Larkin and a niece, Tracey Larkin. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 22, 2006 in the St. Ann Church, Holy Family Parish, Gloucester, Mass., at 10 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, Mass. 01923.
