The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, June 4, 2006 Former Prescott Valley resident, Beverly Ruth Shaunesey, 81, passed away June 1, 2006, at Las Fuentes in Prescott, Ariz. Beverly was born September 21, 1924, in Auburn, Maine, to Charles and Frances Bell (Ordway) Small. She graduated from Yarmough Academy in Maine in 1942. She married Donald Glen Shaunesey on December 1, 1945, in Bath, Maine. They were together for 51 years and 11 months. Beverly worked for Air Research and several years at Wards as a receptionist and bookkeeper. Beverly and her husband, Donald, and two children moved from Everett, Mass., to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1955, where they lived and worked until the children were grown. While living in Phoenix, they bought property in Dewey and built their retirement home on weekends. After moving to Dewey, they opened the Shauns Donut Shop in Prescott Valley where they worked sun up to sun down "making the donuts." People came from miles around, including the folks from Embry-Riddle, to enjoy their fine pastries, making them part of local history. Her brother Orville Small and his wife Gladys had a grocery store on the Frontage road. In her retirement, Beverly loved to quilt, go to Bucky's Casino, do word search puzzles and meet with friends at Michael's Restaurant in Prescott Valley for coffee or brunch. Beverly is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sherri Shaunesey of Prescott Valley; grandchildren, Shannon Shaunesey of Greenfield, Tenn., James "Jay" Shaunesey, of Greenfield, Tenn., Robert Estrada, of Medford, Mass., and Michael Butkowitz of Maine; sister, Thelma Daly of Jefferson, Maine; brothers, Orville (wife, Gladys), Small of Show Low, Ariz., Charles H. (wife, Audrey) Small, Jr., of Yuma, Ariz., Robert (wife, Elaine) Small, of Show Low, Ariz., and Richard (wife, Jackie) Small, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Beverly was proceeded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Patricia; sisters, Norma, Shirley, Wanitta and Arline. A private gathering is planned for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Beverly's name to Hospice Family Care, 100 E. Sheldon St., Ste. 100, Prescott, Ariz., 86301. Her family, Mike, Sherri, Debbie and Joy, especially wish to thank Hospice Family Care for their immediate help, attention and assistance in the wonderful way they took over Beverly's care and needs.
