SCHWARZ, Elizabeth Louise (Betty)

(Maiden Name: Hackendahl)

The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, June 4, 2006 Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Schwarz of Naperville, Ill., entered into eternal life, passing into the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2006, at the age of 89. Our beloved mother and grandmother returns to her Heavenly Father joining her ancestral family and her beloved husband of 55 earthly years, Albert, who predeceased her on Easter Morning, April 23, 2000. Elizabeth was the only child born to Frederick Henry Hackendahl and Fannie Belle Stowell Hackendahl. She was born on Feb. 22, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois. Elizabeth spent her first four years in Chicago before her parents relocated to the village of Oak Park, where she grew up. She attended Oliver Wendell Holmes School, she then attended Oak Park - River Forest High School where she graduated in 1936. Following graduation, she took business-related courses from Mosier Business College and then went to work for Max Factor Cosmetics, doing secretarial work as a Sales Builders Agent. She was affectionately called "Ditto" by her best friend Elizabeth Nightingale. She loved to swim, ride bikes and spend her vacations at the George Williams College camp in Lake Geneva, Illinois. After meeting through mutual friends, she married the love of her life, Albert Roosevelt Schwarz, at First Baptist Church Oak Park on July 15, 1944. Their marriage produced three children who were raised in a Christian home and developed a love of the Lord. Even though she was involved in various church groups, Elizabeth's most cherished calling was as a wife and mother to her family. She loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends. Her presence and love influenced and enriched our lives. Through her maternal lines, Elizabeth was a 10th generation descendant of the 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims, John and Priscilla Mullins Alden. She was most pleased when her children Erich and Lou Ann took it upon themselves to research and document their mother's Mayflower lineage, entitling them to join the genealogical societies the Alden Kindred and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Her grandchildren remembered her as a good cook and a neat housekeeper. Preceding Elizabeth on their journey home were her parents Frederick and Fannie Hackendahl; her devoted husband Albert; half-brothers Harry, Robert J. and Fred E. Hackendahl; half-sisters Helen Perska Bazek and Anna M. Norwood Mclntyre; and grandson Andrew Thomas Schwarz. Elizabeth is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her three children and their families: Don (Beth) Schwarz ofWoodridge, Ill., Erich Schwarz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lou Ann (Arnold) Studebaker of Kanab, Utah; grandson Stephen J. Studebaker of Cedar City, Utah; and step-granddaughter Sr. Armn, Heather (Sr. Armn Chris) Bellar of Omaha Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. A memorial service honoring her life will be held at a later date. Information provided by survivors.
