Veteran organizations of the town have lost a hard working member in the death of James A. (Jim) Ross which occurred January 11 in Community Hospital here. He had suffered a stroke December 30.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wickenburg Funeral Home with the rev. Frank Randall of the First Southern Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery with the American Legion and Masonic Lodge conducting graveside services.
Mr. Ross was born October 3, 1891 in Tacoma, Wash., but was taken to Los Angeles when only four years old and called California his home throughout most of his life until moving to Wickenburg.
Following World War I, in which he served with the U. S. Army Engineers and went overseas with the American. Expeditionary Forces, he returned to California and became associated with his brother in the transfer business.
Soon after moving to Wickenburg he established a sand and gravel business with a pit on the Hassayampa River southeast of town. He carried on that business until retiring a few years ago. His home was on a high point just off the Phoenix Highway some five miles east.
He was affiliated with the World War I Veterans, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and had held office in most of those organizations. At the time of his death he was Senior Vice-Commander of the Legion Post.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner in California and an honorary member of El Zaribah Temple of that organization in Phoenix.
There are no known survivors.
