The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Feb. 6, 1969, p. 11 Mrs Eckhart was Widely Known Many sorrowing friends gathered at the Wickenburg Funeral Home the morning of February 1 to pay their last respects to Mrs Harold (Dixie) Eckhart, well known resident of Wickenburg since 1952, who died at her home on the Prescott Highway January 30. Bishop Evan Meecham of Glendale officiated at the 11 o'clock services and burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mrs Eckhart, whose maiden name was Ella Haden Boott, was born July 6, 1890 in Johnson's Creek, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of the Milton Junction, Wisconsin high school and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. While a student there her roommate started calling her 'Dixie” and the nickname stayed with her the rest of her life. In her younger days she lived in many sections of the nation, including 12 years in the state of Louisiana. She and Mr Eckhart built their lovely home here in 1951 and moved in the following year when Mr Eckhart retired as a vice-president of the Harris Trust & Savings Bank of Chicago. They came here from Evanston, a suburb of Chicago. Mrs. Eckhart took an active part in the social and civic life of this community. She affiliated with the local chapter of the American Association of University Women, Las Damas and the Soroptimist Club. She was among the town's top-notch duplicate bridge players. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs Kathryn Harris of Alexandria, La., and a son John Meyer of Merigold, Miss. Five sisters survive. They are Mrs Roland Rice and Mrs Ezra Bingham, both of Ft. Atkinson, Wisc.; Mrs Harry Mullan, Janesville, Wisc.; Mrs Glen Cary, Milton, Wisc. Mrs. Rice, Mrs Bingham and Mrs Mullen were here for the funeral services. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
