Landon M. Bates, 96, passed June 23rd in Camp Verde, AZ. Born 2-17-1915 in Carrollton, MO to mother, Jennie Young Bates and father, Landon Bates. Mother passed shortly after his birth along with his twin. Landon moved with his foster parents, Landon M. Bates, Dollie Mae Trout, to Arizona in 1919.
Landon made his living running his own heating and cooling business along with owning and managing apartment rentals.
Prior to that from 1934-35 Civilian Conservation Corp; 1936-39 U.S. Senator Hayden appointment as Assistant Land Surveyor for U.S. Public Land in AZ. September 1942- February 1946 as a staff sergeant in Luke Field Army Air Corp.
Having no children of his own Landon is survived by his niece, Ethel Landis Fabrin that he raised like his own. 2 Nephews, Erik and Jannpaul Fabrin, 1 other Niece, Nissa Marie Paggi. 4 Great Grand children, Lucas and Max Fabrin, Ethan and Aaliyah Paggi.
Landon was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Agnes (Pope) Bates and second wife Evelyn (Pack) Bates after 7 years.
His twin along with sisters, one passing in infancy and the other killed at age 12 by a street car.
Landon enjoyed fishing, hunting; traveling all of North America including Canada and Alaska. Landon was a member of Parkside Community Church.
Visitation will be held at the Bueler Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 30th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 1st at 10 a.m. at Bueler Funeral Home Chapel located at 143 W. Arnold St. Camp Verde. Landon will be interred at a later date in Beatty Cemetery, in his home town Carrollton MO.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkside Community Church camp program Camp Verde AZ.
