WATKINS Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wickenburg Funeral Home for John Boyce Watkins, pioneer Salome businessman and postmaster there for many years who died June 27 in Community Hospital here. Mr Watkins owned and operated a general store in Salome from 1931 until his retirement in 1954, also serving as Salome’s second postmaster during those years. He was born July 26, 1888 in Charlotte, Va. and came to Metcalf, Ariz., as a boy in 1905 with his brother, Dr. Warner Watkins. He lived in Phoenix from 1906 to 1931 and operated the Blue Moon Café at 1st Ave. & Adams from 1923 until 1929. He was a veteran of the First World War, a charter member of the V. F. W. Post in Salome and of the Salome Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Evelyn and a son, Capt. John Boyce Watkins Jr. of the U. S. Coast & Geodetic Survey at Edmonds, Wash, also four grandchildren.
