Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. August 25 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home for Dr. Walter James Broad, a resident of Wickenburg the past eight years. The Rev. W. Howard Blazer of the First Presbyterian Church officiated and burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
Dr. Board died August 23 in Community Hospital here following an extended illness.
He was born in Negaunee, Michigan, July 26, 1899 and received his public school training there, graduating in 1918. In the fall of that year he enlisted in the Student Army Training Corps and served until the Armistice, November 11, 1918.
He graduated from the University of Michigan in 927, having earned his degree in Medicine. Following his internship the practiced Medicine for eight years and then returned to the University where he received his Master’s Degree in Public Health in 1937. He served in both county and state departments of Public Health in Alabama and Illinois.
In 1948 he was appointed Director of the McLean County, Illinois Health Department where he served until his retirement in 1962. He had been a resident of Wickenburg since that time.
While practicing, he was a member of the American Medical Association, the Public Health Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Michigan Alumnus and served as an elder in his church.
Dr. Board is survived by his wife Edith Mae and a daughter, Carma Lee (Mrs William) Sager.
