JONES, Mary Violet (Vi)

Copper Basin News Haydem Az. 7/2/2011 Mary Violet “ Vi” Looney Jones was born at home, May 15, 1917 in Deskins, VA, to Burke and Nancy Looney. She passed away in Mesa on June 25, 2001. Vi married Robert D. Jones in Waverly, Ohio, on May 4, 1940. In January of 1946, Vi and Bob moved to Arizona, where they built a house in Kyrene, the area known today as Awatukee. After being there for several years, the family ended up in Ray in 1959. By the summer of 1960, they moved the family to Cement Hill in Hayden. In the summer of 1961, Bob and Vi settled in Kearny. In the mid 60s, Vi had worked for the General Kearny Inn as a dishwasher and advanced cook. She was very proud of her job and greatly enjoyed the working atmosphere and social acquaintances. While working at GKI, she was never far from her family. Vi was very proud to be the mother of five boys. She was active in the Fellowship Baptist Church, until she slowed down, later in life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Jones; son, Lynn Jones; parents; sisters, twin Debbie, Pansy Hankins; and, three of her brothers: Casey Looney, Odell Looney and Leland Looney. She is survived by a brother, Burke Looney; sons, Paul (Judy), Bob (Pam), Glenn and Mike (Becky); as well as numerous grandchildren, and, great-grandchildren. Interment was held Tuesday, June 28, at Kearny Memorial Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Fellowship Baptist Church, presided over by Pastor Joe Palmer. Griffith Mortuary assisted the family.
