POTWIN, Alice B.


The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, October 27, 2006 Alice Potwin, 94, died Oct. 24, 2006. She was born in Newport, R.I., on Feb. 15, 1912, and she was the last survivor of six children. She was a lively, creative woman who engaged in tennis, badminton, dancing, sailing, piano/organ, and the creative arts. Alice completed high school with honors in 1928. From 1929 to 1939 she was an Assistant Treasurer for Newport City. In 1939, she married Earle A. Potwin and became a military wife. She enjoyed her supportive military role, traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, and held many leadership and musical roles with the chapels, churches, and military activities she encountered. Their life together lasted three months short of 60 years. In 1941, their only child, Alice Catharine (Cathy) was born. In 1999, after 39 years in New Jersey, she joined Cathy and her husband in Arizona. While health allowed, Alice was active with church, card playing in Yavapai Hills, and enjoying good friends. Alice is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cathy Bealor; son-in-law Ben; grandsons Steve and Brian Veerhoff; their wives Sue and Suzi; and four great-grandsons, Bradley, Jared, Forest and Miles.
