Bella "Chris" Schroeder, born April 11, 1925, died Oct. 20, 2006.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Schroeder; parents Michael and Janet Christin and brother, Nick Christin.
She is survived by her children, Dawn C. Shroeder and Susan (Schroeder) Smith; her son-in-law, Victor Smith; grandchildren Jami Smith and Tori (Smith) Sawyer; and great-grandson, Kole Sawyer.
Chris was a 52 -year breast cancer survivor who was always willing to help anyone who became a cancer survivor.
She was married on Dec. 27, 1945. She was a graduate of Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio, majoring in chemistry (1946).
She was also active in church activities, including the communion committee, ushering and making baptismal cloths; the Quilting Club; and the Precious Moments Sunshine Angels. Her passions were baking, sewing and rooting against the Cowboys and Oklahoma.
She just completed 130 dozen cookies for the dog show held last weekend. She was an avid reader, her favorite being any kind of mystery. She also enjoyed puzzles, including crosswords and jigsaws. She loved to travel, including many trips with her five roommates from college, the most recent being a trip to her 60th college reunion. She enjoyed many family vacations all over the United States and many dog shows. She was a member of Kachina Kennel Club and loved watching her miniature poodles.
She taught by example, displaying a positive attitude, strong faith, and quick smile. She left all who loved her with comfort, with a gracious acceptance that everyday was a gift from God, no time to waste worrying, no generosity too small.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Community Church of Joy Worship Center, 21000 N. 75th Ave., Glendale, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community of Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund or Maricopa County Sheriffs Office Animal Safe Hospice.
