EKLAND, Robert Nelson


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, July 05, 2011 Robert Nelson Ekland, 94, of Clarkdale, Ariz., born Oct. 27, 1916, in Clinton, Iowa, passed away July 3, 2011, in Cottonwood, Ariz. Services will be 11 a.m. July 12, 2011, at Prescott National Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Arizona. ~~~~~~~~~~ CDR. Robert N. Ekland passed peacefully on July 3, 2011 at the age of 94. Bob, as he was known to friends and family, was born in Clinton, Iowa, in 1916, and was commissioned in the United States Navy in 1938. He served with distinction in WWII in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters. At war's end, he was captain of the USS Incredible. He also served in the Korean War. He worked for General Electric Aerospace as a jet propulsion engineer on the F-104 Starfighter, F-4 Phantom, B-2 and A-10 Warthog which is still in service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bob was pre-deceased by his beloved Jeanne in 1992 and is survived by their daughters, Kitty Nelson of Clarkdale, Arizona, and Susan Ekland of Santa Monica, California.
