Dorothy Magdalena Schlie died June 23, 2011, at her family's home of natural causes. She was born Dorothy Grahlman Dec. 3, 1925, in Sumner, Iowa.
Her early years were spent on the family farm with her two older brothers and sisters. She later met and married Keith Schlie in 1943, and had a daughter, Shirley Schlie. She worked at Rath Packing Company in Iowa, while becoming an accomplished amateur archer and tried out for the Olympics.
She moved to the White Mountains in the ‘60s and worked with her daughter and son-in-law, Norman Pint, to build their construction company. Dorothy co-owned the trading post Tradewind Indian Arts and Crafts during the ‘70s and ‘80s with her daughter, while helping raise her grandchildren. She ran the store for 18 years until its closure, and then became the office receptionist for Shalamar Realty.
Dorothy worked with her daughter and grand-daughter at their real estate office, taking pleasure in making friends with everyone who came in.
She leaves behind her daughter, Shirley Pint; grand-daughter, Katrinna Pint; and her grandson, Shane Pint.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Schlie. Dorothy will be joining her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.
