ELLIS, Flora Myrtie

Daily News (Red Bluff CA) Saturday, June 18, 2011 Flora Ellis, 91 years of age, daughter of Ernest H Berry and Viola B Berry, died June 15, 2011 at Brentwood Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility in Red Bluff, CA. She was born in Winslow, ME on Feb 06, 1920. She married Ray J Ellis of Augusta, ME in 1941. They moved to Compton, CA in 1943, after Ray was wounded on Makin Island in WWII. After the war, they moved to the B bar K Ranch in Trinity Co., where they managed the ranch and entertained many Country and Western celebrities from the Los Angeles area. Ray later worked for the sawmill in Douglas City, CA and she was a wife and mother for several years. After the mill burned, Ray became the Trinity County Veterans Service Officer and she cooked for many restaurants, the county hospital in Weaverville, CA and the Forest Service. When Ray retired, they moved to Wickenburg, AZ, where they lived for 23 years. Flora was an avid knitter, crocheter, and beader, making "pocket money" by selling her remarkable jewelry. After Ray passed away, she moved to Red Bluff, CA to be nearer to family. She is survived by three brothers, Theodore Berry of Cottonwood, CA, Milton (Maxine) Berry of Grangerville, ID, and Chester (Beverly) Berry of Shelly, ID. She is also survived by sons, Richard (Beth) Ellis of Grendale (sic), AZ, Gary (Anita) Ellis of Marikina City, Phillipines, and a daughhter, Linda (Lynn) Tackmier of Cottonwood, CA. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ray J Ellis, brother, Ernest (Bud) Berry, sister Christine Gibbs, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Berry and Melba Berry, and brother-in-law, James Gibbs. She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brentwood Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility for their abundant kindness and love to our mom in her final days. Cremation is being handled by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers. At mom's request, there will be no services. A family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
