CARLSON, Bernard Arthur


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Wednesday, July 13, 2011 - Bernard Arthur Carlson, 83, passed away July 4, 2011, in Lake Havasu City. He was born June 8, 1928, in Ely, Minn., to Oscar and Helen Carlson. Bernard served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from January 1947 to June 1948. He married his wife, Joyce, at the Methodist Church in Sundance, Wyo., Nov. 5, 1976. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and canoeing. He was an avid reader and was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it as well as having a dry sense of humor. All who knew him liked him and he will be deeply missed. Bernard is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Joyce Marines Carlson, of Lake Havasu City; children, Lynn Carlson, Jay Carlson, Peggy Maki and Nicki Coombe; sister, Mary Ann Frank; brother, Jerry Carlson; grandchildren, Staci Verqe, Robin Ellis, Ryan Grivette, Jamie Leppanen, Rochelle Sjoberg, Christian Maki, Jesslyn Maki and Melissa Abbott; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Sikala and father, Oscar Carlson; and a brother, Charles Carslon. A memorial service with full military honors presented by the VFW, and inurnment will take place at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Columbarium at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Mt.
