The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Saturday, July 12, 2003 Ramona Uriarte Olivas, 89, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Banner Gardens Hospice in Mesa, Arizona. Ramona was born on Jan-uary 10, 1914 in Navolato, Sinaloa Mexico. She was preceded in death by her late husband REV. DANIEL OLIVAS, a minister of the United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents Filiberto and Brijida Calzadillo, sister Laurie C. Lopez, and brothers Guadalupe Uriarte and Pete Calzadillo. She is survived by her only son Dan Olivas Jr, daughter in law Vera Olivas, granddaughter Laura Rachelle Auer and great granddaughter Danielle Vera Day, all of Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ramona moved to Phoenix, Arizona from Mexico when she was 2 years old. She attended Cartwright School. In August 14, 1933 she married Rev. Daniel Olivas, a minister of the United Methodist Church at Primera Iglesia Methodista Unida, Phoenix, Arizona. Their journey to-gether carried them to many churches, as pastor and wife in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and California, where they served the Hispanic community. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1964 due to her husband's disability until his death in June 22, 1979. Shortly thereafter she moved to Chandler, Arizona to be close to her son and family. Ramona was an accomplished pianist, which was an asset to her husband in his work. She was a member of the Southern California-Arizona Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. She attend-ed Primera Iglesia Methodista Unida for many years and later St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Ramona will be missed by many as she has touched many lives. She has passed on to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Her viewing will be held at Meldrum Funeral Home in Mesa, Arizona on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 2540 W. Baseline Road, Mesa, Arizona on Monday, July 14, 2003 at 9:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Marty Olivas, Rev. Dan Morley and Rev. Diana Williams. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, Arizona.
