Lawrence (Larry) J. Schinn, 83, passed away on July 9, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 59 years; two children, Claudia of Phoenix, and Lawrence of Long Island, New York; three grandchildren, Lauren, Michael and Allison: and a brother, Michael, of Duluth, Minnesota.
Larry was born in Duluth, Minnesota on October 14, 1919.
In his late teens he participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and later was employed as a welder at Interlake Iron Corporation.
This was interrupted while he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1943 in the WWII European Theatre. During his military career, he married his hometown sweetheart, in Cambridge, England where Mary was serving with the 8th Air Force.
Following military discharge, Larry and Mary returned to Duluth to start their lives together. In the early 1960's, Larry and family moved to Phoenix, at which time his career changed to that of an electronic tech-nician at Motorola and Medtronic Micro Rel. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Phoenix, and a member of the American Legion, Pulaski Club and former member of VFW and Moose Lodge. Larry enjoyed many years of a well-earned retirement, having good health, traveling the world, visits to dear family and friends, sports events, and his love of family. His passing was a result of a battle with strokes.
Memorial services and interment will be in Duluth, Minnesota.
Visitation at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, July 13th from 5-7 P.M.
Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 10 A.M., Tuesday, July 14th.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
He was truly loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed but never forgotten. God rest his soul and grant him peace.
Arrangements entrusted to A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel of Phoenix.
