Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg Arizona February 16, 1967, page 1 Morristown Prospector Found Dead William Reeves (Bill) Dougherty, age 66, a prospector, lived alone in a cabin on one of his mining claims in the Castle Hot Springs country about four miles north of Brown’s Well. He had been in ill health for some time. One day last week he realized he was dying. He wrote a note expressing the hope that someone might call at his cabin before death came. His hope was not fulfilled. He died a lonely death. Friends from Phoenix found his body when they stopped at the cabin for a visit Wednesday morning. They notified the Wickenburg sheriff’s office. Deputy Sheriff Ron Goodson and Justice of the Peace Lester Skrumbellos went to the Daugherty cabin and found the note in a pocket of his clothing. The determined he had been dead probably two days, from natural causes. In the cabin the officers found the information that Daugherty had a brother, Frank, living in Olton, Texas. He was contacted and arranged to have his brother’s body shipped there for services and burial. The brother said the deceased had several children, including a daughter, Mrs. Jake Helms of Florence, Arizona.
