Ross Dykes, 69, of Congress, a pioneer Arizonan, died Saturday at Wickenburg Community Hospital after a long illness. A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Dykes was born February 6, 1898, and moved to Arizona in 1910 where he worked as a cowboy in the Ashfork area and for many years farmed in the Phoenix and Buckeye areas. In 1951 he built the White Horse Resort near Williams which he and Mrs. Dykes have operated summers since then. They spent their winters in Congress. Mr. Dykes was a veteran of World War I. Requiem mass was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Wickenburg. Rosary was recited Monday evening at 8 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home, Rev. D. F. O’Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park, Phoenix. Survivors are his wife, Lorayne; two stepsons, Robert Mays, Tucson and John Mays, San Fernando, Calif.; eight grandchildren; brothers, Tom, Pat and Jim Dykes of California and George Dykes, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Rice, Mrs. Roxie Harris and Mrs. Virginia Francher, Phoenix.
