Thurman W. Shivers died June 12, 2007, at Bob Stump Veterans' Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona. Born to Vernie Mills and Verdie Josephine (Wilson) Shivers in Grand Saline, Texas, Jan. 26, 1918.
The family moved to Prescott in 1920 when Thurman was 3. Thurman married Justine Bernadette Davis on Sept. 4, 1948, in Prescott. Thurman owned Shivers Brothers Upholstery in Prescott for over 20 years.
Thurman served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy at Leyte Province, Philippine Islands. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Thurman is survived by his son Ken Shivers of Prescott Valley, Ariz., the pride and joy of his life, grandsons Shane and Jeremiah; and great-grandchild Hagen.
