Fred W. Riley, 77, passed away July 19, 2011. He was born May 29, 1934, to Fred and Ella Riley in Arborville, Neb.
He was known to everyone as "Ted," a nickname he acquired when his younger sister could not pronounce his given name. He joined the Army in 1954 and honorably served his country for three years. He spent a good part of his enlisted time in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Ted went to work at his uncle's service station in Bagdad, Ariz., where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Hernandez. Virgie and Ted were married 53 years and have one son, David Wayne Riley.
Ted's character and integrity are part of the legacy he has left behind to all who knew him. His word was his bond. He enjoyed a great retired life and filled his time with yardwork, gardening and playing pool with Leroy and P.J.
Ted was part of an elite group of people known as "old Bagdad." He worked at the mine in Bagdad for 34 years in the mill department as a mechanic/welder and retired as a supervisor.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Wilhoit, Ariz.; son David and his wife Rene Riley of Morenci, Ariz.; brother Charles Riley of Bagdad, Ariz.; and a long list of grand-, great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and the entire Domingo Hernandez family.
