BARELA, Jennie E.

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, October 7, 2006 Jennie E. Barela of Prescott passed away Oct. 5, 2006, at the age of 92. Jennie was born May, 16, 1914, in Globe, Arizona. She lived in Globe for 30 years, after which she and her husband, Felix Barela, moved to California. In 1976, Jennie moved to Prescott and helped raise her three grandchildren. Jennie is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Francisca Esparza; husband, Felix; sisters Monica and Margaret; and brother, Joseph. Survivors include her sister, Cruz Lugo; daughter, Patricia Porras; three grandchildren, Darryl (Lisa) Porras, Donnie (Julia) Porras, and Christopher (Sara) Porras; five nieces and nephews; and six great-grandchildren. Since moving to Prescott in 1976, Jennie enjoyed crocheting Afghans for her grandchildren and knitting sweaters. Jennie was a devoted Catholic. A Rosary in honor of Jennie will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. TUesday, Oct. 10, at Hamptoh Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Sacred Heart Church with an informal reception following. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
