Arizona Pioneer Buried On Coast
Phoenix friends have been advised of the death of J. Wilfred Broomell,
86, a week ago today in Santa Ana, Calif., where the Arizona pioneer had lived for several-years.
Funeral services and burial were Friday in Santa Ana.
Mr. Broomell was born in Aurora, Ill., and came to Phoenix in 1886
with his parents. He attended public schools here and was graduated from Phoenix Union High School. After graduation, he and his brother, Albert, farmed an 80-acre tract east of Phoenix. They took such good care of the place that is was known as the "Sandpapered Ranch."
He was one of the incorporators of the Salt River Water Users Association.
Mr. Broomell had extensive citrus interests in Santa Ana. At the time of his death, he and his son and two grandsons were planting a large citrus grove in San Diego County.
Mr. Broomell was a regular attendant at the Arizona pioneer reunion in Phoenix and was a member of the Arizona Pioneers Association.
He is survived by his son, George; three grandsons, Del, Gary, and James Broomell; and a granddaughter. Mrs. Martin Bidart. All live in Santa Ana. Also surviving are two great-grandsons.
