Willis (Bill) Jefferson Moffitt, beloved husband and father, died June 16, 2006, in Prescott. He was born in Laurel, Mont., on April 8, 1918.
He died at home with his wife Betty of 65 years and his children, Billie Jean King and Randy Moffitt, at his side. Bill was 88 years old. He lived his early life in Livingston, Mont., and moved to Long Beach, Calif., at the age of 13. He graduated from Long Beach Poly High School and attended Long Beach City College. He played varsity basketball at both schools.
Bill was a fire fighter (engineer) on the Long Beach Fire Department for 35 years. He served in World War II in the Navy as a Chief specialist A.
He was a Mason of California (Long Beach Lodge # 327).
After retirement, he scouted for the Milwaukee Brewers and was president of the Long Beach Connie Mack League for two years.
Bill is survived by wife Betty Moffitt; daughter Billie Jean King; son Randall J. Moffitt; grandchildren, Miranda (Russell Harrah) and Alysha (James Gosse); great-grandchild Evan James Harrah; sister-in-law Patricia Moffitt; cousin, Hal Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's name to the Hospice Family Foundation, 100 East Sheldon, Suite 100, Prescott, Ariz., 86301.
Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
