KINDIG STANDIFORD, Johnnie Ann

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, June 12, 2006 Johnnie Ann Standiford, 81, formerly of Prescott Valley, passed away on May 27, 2006. Born in Big Spring, Texas, she and her family migrated to Phoenix when she was an infant. Johnnie Ann was a published author and was known for telling fascinating tales of her life experience as an early Phoenician; of how she and her sister would roller skate on the steps of our State Capitol building. She remembered the Hindenburg flying over our very own city. She tells another story of watching a parade as she sat on her Daddy's shoulders. The parade was a presidential campaign effort for Franklin D. Roosevelt. Johnnie was preceded in death by her son Bruce Kendig. She is survived by her loving husband James W. Standiford, originally of Elm Grove, W.Va.; children, Robert Kendig and his wife Geri, Nancy Ann Lake, and her step-son James W. Standiford, Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou; her eight grandchildren, Jason, Zachary, Rebecca, Jonathon, Anderson, Katharine, James and Justin; and four great-grandchildren, Mason, Hayle, Justice and Justin. Her role as a sister to Billy Jamison of Denver, Colo. was a shining example of support and kindness. She also leaves behind nephews Craig, Carl, Clifford, Claude and Peter Kendig. A private Memorial Service will be held next week. Donations in lieu of flowers would be gratefully accepted for Hospice of the Valley. Johnnie Ann will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but we will remember her as a devoted wife and mother, graceful mother-in-law and wonderful friend. Phoenix says goodbye to an extraordinary lady. Our loss is heaven's gain. Arrangements entrusted to Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary. Information provided by survivors.
