Samuel J. Davis II, 73, died at his residence in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Jan. 21, 2007. Mr. Davis was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls for the past seven years, moving there from Chino Valley.
He was a career officer in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as Lt/Col. in 1977, specializing in electronic weaponry. He was recipient of the Silver Star, two DFCs, and 25 Oak Leaf Clusers.
After retirement he helped to organize literacy programs in Chino Valley and taught math. He also volunteered for AARP in tax preparation for seniors and mentored astronomy students. He was a member of St. Luke's in Prescott, the Old Crows Association, and Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Assoc., and he was a life member of the Society of Wild Weasels.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betsy; daughter, Reed (Timothy) Porter of Stow, Ohio; sons Peter W. Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stuart P. (Kathryn) Davis of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Andrew L, (Roxanne) Davis of Newport News, Va.; and grandchildren Amber Porter and Andrew, Sam and Adam Davis.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Candelee Phillips and Debi Winter, and his hospice nurses and aides, Norma, Cindy, Dale and Tammy.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place.
